ANEK LINES: Biosafety Trust Certification by RINA for safe travelling against COVID-19 spread
ANEK LINES’ primary target is the constant protection of the health of its passengers and its employees. Responsibly and respectfully it continues its travels to Crete, in the Aegean and in the Adriatic Sea, taking all the necessary health care safety measures to avoid the spread of COVID-19. In direct cooperation with the competent authorities, the Company has developed structured procedures and has taken additional measures in its Ships and ANEK LINES Offices.
TICKETING MEASURES (ANEK LINES Offices)
• The passengers’ entrance in the ANEK LINES Offices is controlled, allowing only a specific number of persons to be inside the premises, according to the safety regulations.
• Passengers’ awareness is raised by an informative corporate poster and a corresponding poster of the National Public Health Organization (EODY), placed in conspicuous spots within the ANEK LINES Offices. At the same time, a special informative leaflet containing regulations and precautionary measures that passengers must be aware of before boarding the ship, is provided during the ticket issue.
• Special protective glass panels have been placed in all passenger service spots, as well as signs on the floor indicating the correct social distancing that must be maintained by passengers as they wait for the issue and reception of their tickets.
Travel forms that is necessary to fill in
Passengers traveling from Italy to Greece
Entrance to Greece is allowed to:
– Citizens of the European Union (EU) and members of their family
– Citizens of Schengen countries and members of their family
– Permanent residents of the following countries: Albania, Australia, Northern Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, United Arab Emirates, United States of America, United Kingdom, Japan, Israel, Canada, Belarus, Lebanon, Montenegro, Bahrain, New Zealand, South Korea, Qatar, China, Kuwait, Ukraine, Rwanda, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore and Thailand
– Healthcare professionals, nursing staff and health researchers
– Long-term residents of EU Member States or the Schengen Agreement and third-country nationals holding a residence permit in EU or Schengen – Member States, including third-country nationals holding valid residence permits (residence permits, residence cards, permanent residence cards) issued in application of Greek and European legislation
– Politicians, diplomats, military personnel, etc.
– Personnel employed in the transport sector
– Passengers outside the countries of the European Union or countries outside Schengen, who travel for a special purpose and have been granted permission by the Greek Consulate
– Holders of a Special Expatriate Identity Card
– Caregivers of the elderly and disabled
– Seasonal workers in the fields of agriculture and fishing, who can enter the country once during the period provided by their work permit.
All persons mentioned above should prove their status with the appropriate documents.
All travellers to Greece, regardless of nationality and way of entering the country, should fill in and submit the electronic PLF (Passenger Locator Form) available at https://travel.gov.gr, with their contact details in Greece before their arrival in the country. The proof of submission of the PLF, which is automatically sent by e-mail to the passenger, is considered a necessary travel document. A valid PLF form, with a QR code, is considered necessary for the entrance to each entrance gate of the Country.
All travellers to Greece, regardless of nationality and way of entering the country, must meet one of the following entry requirements:
Have completed the vaccination for COVID-19 at least fourteen (14) days before arrival to Greece and present a vaccination certificate in Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian, issued by a public authority and in accordance with the relevant legislation. The vaccination certificate must include the name of the passenger as indicated on the passport, the type of vaccine administered, the number of doses and the date(s) of vaccination, or
Have a negative molecular test (PCR) for COVID-19 by taking an oral or nasopharyngeal smear or a negative result of rapid antigen test for COVID-19 a) performed within the last seventy two (72) hours before arrival in Greece for the PCR test and within forty eight (48) hours before arrival in Greece for the rapid test, b) by reference laboratories of the country of origin or transit or public or private laboratories of that country, provided that these private laboratories are certified by the competent national certification authority of the country and c) have a certificate of the above diagnosis, in Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian language, including the name of the passenger as indicated on the passport, or
Alternatively, travellers to Greece carry a certificate of illness after a molecular test (PCR) or after a rapid coronavirus antigen detection test for COVID-19 (rapid test). The disease certificate is issued thirty (30) days after the first positive test and its validity lasts up to one hundred and eighty (180) days after it. The first positive test is carried out by a) a public authority in accordance with the relevant legislation or b) reference laboratories of the country of origin or transit or public or private laboratories of that country, provided that these private laboratories are certified by the competent national certification authority of the country. The certificate of illness is in Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish or Russian and includes the name of the traveller as it appears on the passport, or
Alternatively, travellers to Greece may carry, in digital or printed form, a COVID-19 Digital Certificate issued in accordance with EU requirements containing information on vaccination or the result of the last rapid antigen detection test (rapid test) or laboratory PCR test for coronavirus COVID-19, or of coronavirus COVID-19 illness, as appropriate, in compliance with the above intervals.
Especially the permanent residents of Montenegro enter Greece under the following conditions: a) have completed, at least fourteen (14) days before, the vaccination for coronavirus COVID-19 and b) have been negatively tested in a laboratory by the method of PCR for COVID-19.
Especially the permanent residents of the Russian Federation enter Greece under the following conditions: a) have been negatively tested in a laboratory by the method of PCR or by using rapid coronavirus antigen detection test (rapid test) for COVID-19 and b) have an obligatory molecular (PCR) test or rapid coronavirus antigen detection test (rapid test) at the points of entry in the country, stay in the gate area until the issuance of the test result and accept the mandatory temporary restriction in case of a positive test result.
The above obligations concern minors from twelve (12) years old and over.
During check-in at Italian ports, passengers should display both the submission of the PLF form and the possession of one of the above certificates that are mandatory for their boarding.
All travellers to Greece, regardless of nationality and way of entering the country, are subject upon arrival to sampling laboratory PCR or rapid coronary antigen detection tests COVID-19 (rapid tests) based on a health algorithm. The tests are carried out by officers of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection and the National Public Health Organization, which are in charge of carrying out medical examinations. Passengers subjected to the sampling tests shall remain at place of arrival until the test result is issued and in the event of their detection as positive for COVID-19, they are subject to temporary restriction, at home or at a suitable place of temporary residence indicated by the competent authorities, for ten (10) days or seven (7) days for those who have completed the vaccination for COVID-19 at least fourteen (14) days before arrival to Greece. On the last day of their temporary restriction, they are subjected to mandatory laboratory testing by PCR method.
Passengers traveling from Greece to Italy
The submission of the digital Passenger Locator Form (dPLF) available at https://app.euplf.eu/#/ is mandatory for anyone who enters Italy from Greece for any length of stay, via any means of transport. One form must be completed for each adult passenger; accompanied minors can be registered on the form of the accompanying adult. In the case of unaccompanied minors, the dPLF must be completed by the parent or legal guardian before departure. Transit passengers should select “Italy” as the destination country, regardless of their final destination. Once the form has been sent, passengers receive the dPLF in PDF and as a QR Code at the email address entered during registration, which must be shown directly from a smartphone (in digital format) when boarding. Alternatively, passengers can print a copy of the dPLF to show when boarding.
For entry into Italy, travellers who have resided or made a transit through Greece within the previous 14 days from the date of arrival in Italy, must present to the carrier upon boarding and to whoever else has the authority to carry out controls, the EU digital COVID certificate, showing that they:
• Have completed the vaccination for COVID-19 at least fourteen (14) days before arrival to Italy, or
• Have recovered from COVID-19 and completed the prescribed period of isolation following SARS-CoV-2 disease. The certificate of recovery is valid up to one hundred and eighty (180) days after the first positive test, or
• Have taken, within forty-eight hours (48) before entering Italy, a molecular or antigen swab test with a negative result in SARS-CoV-2.
Alternatively to the EU digital COVID certificate, travellers to Italy can equally present green certificates, i.e. certificates issued in one of the member states of the European Union or in a third country, after completion of vaccination with an approved by EMA (European Medicines Agency) vaccine or after recovery from COVID-19 and completion of the quarantine period required for SARS-CoV-2 disease or after performing, within 48 hours before entering Italy, rapid antigen test or molecular test with negative result.
Certificates may be written in Italian, English, French or Spanish and may be submitted in either written or digital form.
In case of non-presentation of the EU digital COVID certificate or the green certificate, a preventive self-restriction is required (10-day quarantine) after informing the competent local Health Authority of entry into Italy and, after the end of the 10-day preventive self-restriction, it is necessary to take a molecular test (PCR) or antigen test.
Children under 6 years of age are exempt from the pre-departure molecular or antigen swab test.
Minors are exempt from quarantine (where provided) only if they are accompanied by an adult (parent or other escort) holding a green certificate (or the EU digital COVID certificate).
With the obligation to complete and submit the electronic dPLF (digital Passenger Locator Form) and provided that there are no symptoms of COVID-19, the presentation of an EU digital COVID certificate or a green certificate and the performance of molecular or antigenic test within 48 hours before arrival in Italy, do not apply to:
whoever enters Italy for a period of less than 120 hours for proven reasons of work, health or urgency, with the obligation, at the end of the above period, to leave Italian territory immediately or, if this is not possible, to enter a period of monitoring or preventive self-restriction.
whoever transits, by his own means, through the Italian territory for a period of up to 36 hours, with the obligation, at the end of the above period, to leave the Italian territory immediately or, if this is not possible, to enter a period of monitoring or preventive self-restriction.
Domestic Routes (From Piraeus to Chania, Heraklion, Cyclades or Dodecanese
All passengers must complete the Passenger Pre-Boarding form (online form or PDF file) and deliver it together with their ticket, to the vessel’s Chief Purser during boarding, before the vessel’s departure. Passengers have to present the necessary documents (in electronic or printed form) certifying the tests’ results or prior vaccination.
Specifically, from Monday, July 5, for travel from Piraeus to Crete, Cyclades, Dodecanese will be required:
(a) vaccination certificate or disease certificate; or
b) negative PCR result in the last 72 hours or
c) negative result of rapid test in the last 48 hours.
-For children 12 to 17 years: any test, including selftest.
-Children up to 12 years old travel freely.
Α self-test is recommended for all passengers over 12 years old, on their return from the islands.
Passengers who travel between different island Regional Units for work purposes on a daily basis. They will travel by performing a weekly self-test as already applies.
Those who travel between islands that are very close or on ferries that connect the mainland with nearby islands. They will travel by performing a weekly self-test if they are employees as is already the case and by performing a self-test before moving for the rest.
INFORMATION REGARDING PRE-BOARDING HEALTH DECLARATION QUESTIONNAIRE
Personal data included in statements submitted by the passengers before boarding the ship, are collected by the Company in order to comply with the Greek Legislation and the Directives of the Official Authorities within the scope of activities intended to protect the Public Health from the spread of COVID-19. They will be maintained in the Ship’s records for two months and they will not be communicated to third parties, unless it is demanded by a specific order of the Official Authorities.

Biosafety Trust Certification by RINA for safe travelling against COVID-19 spread

The innovative management system certification, internationally recognized in the shipping industry, is based on the ISO’s systematic approach to management systems combined with scientific best practices against the spread of infections together with the principles of organizational behavior management (OBM) to effectively control and prevent a contagion in a work context.
The certification of ANEK LINES confirms that every ship of the company is fully compliant with all the identified measures of the scheme against the spread of COVID-19. It is worth noting that ANEK LINES, in cooperation with the competent authorities, has also developed structured procedures and has taken additional measures regarding both its ships and its owned Agencies.
The Biosafety Trust Certification takes into account that the success of health safety management systems depends highly on the personal responsibility. Therefore, to comply with the strict hygiene rules, the system requires experienced staff to undergo ad hoc training courses for specific conditions and that each individual passenger is aware of and follows the recommended preventative measures. CHECK-IN – PASSENGER BOARDING
• THE USE OF FACE MASKS IS MANDATORY BOTH INSIDE THE SHIP AND ALSO ON THE OUTSIDE DECKS FOR ALL PASSENGERS
• Passengers must not travel if they have symptoms of COVID-19 infection (cough, rhinorrhea, fever, sore throat, shortness of breath and other respiratory symptoms) or if they have been in contact with a COVID-19 patient recently.
• Prompt arrival of passengers at the port of departure is recommended to facilitate the control procedures.
• When passengers come aboard, they must give their ticket and the filled special printed “Pre-Boarding” form to the ship’s Finance Officer.
• Our ships are equipped with thermometers that can be used if necessary.
• All people on board (passengers and crew) must use a cloth mask(1) or cloth to cover their nose and mouth during boarding and as long as they are present in any area of the ship.
• Our Company has adopted special marking and controlled entrance measures, whereas the presence of specially trained members of the crew at the entrance ensures a minimum distance of 1.5 m between passengers. Passengers that cannot use a cloth mask(1) due to respiratory disorders, must maintain a minimum distance of 2m.
• Antiseptic gel dispensers are placed at the entrance and in various parts of the ship (Reception, Restaurants, Café – Bars, Shops, WC, inner and outer areas of public use).
• Passengers must comply with the following preventative measures during their trip:
– Wear your mask (1) in all indoor and outdoor areas of the ship. Make sure that the mouth and the nose are covered, do not touch the mask(1) after you wear it and immediately after use, discard the mask(1) in a waste basket and wash your hands.
– Cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue which will be discarded in a waste basket immediately after use.
– Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand rub solution, avoiding to touch the face (eyes, nose, mouth) with your hands.
DURING THE TRIP
• Gloves are not a substitute for washing your hands.• Gloves are not a substitute for washing your hands.
• Maintain a minimum distance of 1.5 m from those around you.
• Avoid areas of overcrowding
• Avoid contact with people that show signs of respiratory distress (cough, rhinorrhea, fever, sore throat).
• If you show signs of respiratory distress, you are obliged to inform the ship’s crew.
• If you show signs of respiratory distress after your trip, you are obliged to seek medical attention and inform your attending doctor about your trip.
MEASURES TAKEN DURING THE TRIP / USE OF AREAS OF PUBLIC USE
• Constant disinfection on an hourly basis by the crew of all areas and surfaces of the ship which come in frequent contact with the passengers. Cleaning / disinfection procedures are carried out according to the instructions of EODY and WHO.
• In all the possible areas of passenger overcrowding, like the Reception, bars, restaurants, sales points / shops, common toilets, special signs on the floor impose the maintenance of social distancing and avoidance of overcrowding. Also special protective glass panels have been installed in all passenger service spots.
• Special marking signs in the areas of public use (Restaurants, Café – Bars, Lounges) inform the passengers about the allowed use of specific seats / tables.
• Foodstuff preparation and handling, as well as the cleaning and disinfection of all utensils and areas used in the food chain are carried out according to the demands of ISO 22000 (HACCP).
• The A La Carte Restaurant and Café – Bar menus have been replaced by contactless menus.
• Seat distribution in the aircraft type seats follows the principle of “one occupied seat with one empty seat in every direction around it”, and special (self-adhesive) signs indicate where a passenger is allowed to sit so that the necessary distance from other passengers is maintained.
• Passenger cabins are cleaned according to a special protocol and they are aired with their door open for at least 3 hours, until their next use. The maximum number of persons who can share a cabin is 2, except for families of up to 4 persons, or persons with disabilities and their companion.
• All foreseen health care protocols concerning the ships’ bedlinen are followed: All items are washed at 80o C and ironed at 170o C. When washed, during the rinsing stage, a certified disinfectant–neutralizer is used. Transport carts are disinfected after every route and all trucks transporting bedlinen are disinfected on a daily basis.
• In all the ships of the Company the air conditioning system operates 24 hours a day, providing 100% fresh air to all the areas of the ship. No air is recycled or rerouted from cabins or other closed areas of the ship. The air conditioning systems are maintained and suitably disinfected using a special chemical solution in time intervals not greater than 20 days. In addition, frequent disinfection of all the air conditioning components is carried out by certified contractor.
• Crew members urge the passengers to avoid areas of the ship where there may be overcrowding.
• Frequent audio announcements and projection of a TV spot on the ships’ TV screens (at the ship’s departure and during the trip) informing the passengers about the sanitation measures applied in the ship.
• Special cases at various spots of the areas of public use contain special bags for rejection of used masks and gloves.
• When a ship is in a port without passengers, all its external doors are opened and remain open to create a natural ventilation of its interior.
• All printed matter has been removed from the cabins and areas of public use. However, if someone is interested, the corporate advertising brochures are available and can be obtained from the ship’s Reception.
• It is recommended to avoid the elevators. If an elevator must be taken, only 40% of its total capacity can be used. If escalators exist, the use of elevators is allowed only to persons with disabilities or elderly people.
CREWS – PROCEDURES MANAGEMENT
• Crew training to recognize probable cases of COVID-19. ANEK LINES, assisted by a specialized Medical Team, has trained all the crews of its ships so that they can recognize and manage probable cases of COVID-19.
• Management team for a probable case of COVID-19. In every ship, a team which will deal with a probable case has been set up (Task Force COVID-19), led by the Captain, and specially trained by a doctor. The training has been arranged by ANEK LINES. This specific team is responsible to manage any probable case of COVID-19 on the ship.
• The ships carry the necessary equipment, and a separate cabin has been foreseen, so that if an isolated case emerges, the ship’s crew, in cooperation with the competent authorities will take all the measures required to handle the patient and avoid possible spread of the virus.
REFUSAL OF BOARDING
On the basis of the above, if the trained crew members determine that:
i. A passenger shows signs of COVID-19 infection or
ii. Their “Pre-boarding” form answers indicate contact with a COVID-19 patient or
iii. The passenger refuses to use a mask(1) while on-board
will not be allowed to board and the existing provisions will apply on using the tickets at a later date, or canceling them.
In the cases (i) and (ii) the passenger will not be allowed to travel for 14 days and if the passenger is a COVID-19 patient, he must provide a medical certificate, that the criteria laid down by EODY, for the discontinuation of the measures for a COVID-19 patient, have been met.
Cooperating during these trying times is crucial.
Our Company has assigned the evaluation of the procedures and measures used to confront the biological dangers originating from COVID-19 to an internationally certified organization.
(1) Use of a surgical face mask is accepted, however not recommended instead of a cloth mask, ensuring that surgical masks will remain available for the use of medical staff. The mask with high breathing protection valve is not accepted for use by the general public.
